Lessons from the Trail

  • Alicia Philley Artist 805 North Capital of Texas Highway Austin, TX, 78746 United States (map)

An exhibition of new work created at the Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve

Artist talk at 2:30

Show open through January 24

Pictured above: Porcelain embedded with mason stains and Juniper bark, coated in melted found glass and ceramic shards.

Some of the themes and elements in the artworks created during my residency at Wild Basin:
Rare coralroot orchids sharing nutrients through root and fungal networks with Ashe junipers.
The bark from those trees, serving as springtime nesting material for the endangered Golden-cheeked Warbler.
Glass from the former landfill hiding beneath the revitalized preserve.

Observing the landscape while learning about Wild Basin’s history and ongoing research projects has guided Alicia Philley’s residency explorations and the creation of this exhibit, Lessons from the Trails. On Dec. 8th, she will present sketches and paintings on paper, stop motion animation, as well as porcelain and glass sculptures.
