Cabinet Oak Project premier and artist talk
For a limited time, visitors to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center will be able to experience two concurrent art exhibitions engaging with the legacies of both the First Lady and President Johnson. Austin Artist Alicia Philley has created art honoring the work of these legendary Texans. Her October through April site-specific installation at the Wildflower Center, titled “The Seeds We Plant,” celebrates the ongoing conservation efforts that were initiated by the First Lady over 50 years ago. In addition, Philley’s new sculpture, commissioned by the Friends of the Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park as part of the Cabinet Oak Project, will make its public debut on March 21 at the Wildflower Center. Philley will give a talk about the conservation work and partnership of the first lady and president, which inspired this art made from a piece of historic live oak tree.
Solstice, Sculpture and Sound

Before the sun sets on the longest night of the year, join artist Alicia Philley for music, candlelight and blessings at her site-specific installation “The Seeds We Plant.” Philley has invited local harpist and sound therapist Andrea Cortez and yoga and meditation teacher Mari Bird to provide a calming soundscape and words of light and wisdom.

Equivalents
Equivalents highlights the reality that the online gallery dwells in a space most often associated with commerce. The artworks were created digitally, specifically to exist on the West WING Online Project Space's "walls." Yet, viewers can engage with the show as they would any other online space, picking favorites and clicking to customize so an object—in this case an archival art print—is shipped to their homes.

“Altered States: A show delving into the artists’ perceptions of the world, reinterpreting reality in their art, using their own visions to create new possibilities.”
My painting, Drought Tolerant II, deconstructs the colors and forms of cactus plants blooming in Big Bend National Park. While I used images as a reference when making the work, the final composition speaks not specifically of the plant, but how we perceive color and reflective light as well as how we engage emotionally with the nature that surrounds us.
Please join me at the opening reception for the show, Saturday, January 25rd from 3-6pm!
