Cabinet Oak Project premier and artist talk
For a limited time, visitors to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center will be able to experience two concurrent art exhibitions engaging with the legacies of both the First Lady and President Johnson. Austin Artist Alicia Philley has created art honoring the work of these legendary Texans. Her October through April site-specific installation at the Wildflower Center, titled “The Seeds We Plant,” celebrates the ongoing conservation efforts that were initiated by the First Lady over 50 years ago. In addition, Philley’s new sculpture, commissioned by the Friends of the Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park as part of the Cabinet Oak Project, will make its public debut on March 21 at the Wildflower Center. Philley will give a talk about the conservation work and partnership of the first lady and president, which inspired this art made from a piece of historic live oak tree.
